Takin’ That Road to Nowhere

It was forwards, backwards, and round again.  It was walking, then more walking, a break, walking, more walking, and then when we were completely walked out we walked to dinner.  It was a 1981 cassette player with auto-reverse, dual capacity.

No churches, no chapels, no archaeological digs or ancient temples, no museums or monuments.  We celebrated our last full day in Malta just soaking up the late autumn sun.

First we walked about a six km stretch of seawall slash promenade from Sliema along the coast to another town, St. Julian’s, which is even more touristy (in that there are brand hotels and glitzier digs with ocean front pools).  We veered in and out of neighbourhoods and side streets then retraced some of our steps.

After a midday snack at a seaside place, we walked into Sliema proper, the old neighbourhoods, with nothing much to offer tourists, and where we discovered a trove of architectural gems, some refurbished, others in disarray.

We hit 20,000 steps long before it was mid-afternoon, which left us some downtime before dinner.  For our last night we booked Ayu again, the Bao Buns were calling us.  And then it was an early night.
